Olympic Fever Grips Birmingham Sands
18th August 2008
While the Olympic action was in full flow 5,000 miles away in Beijing, closer to home thousands flocked to the urban beach in Birmingham for the fourth stop of the Dodge Urban Beach Tour.
Centenary Square, in the heart of the city, set the scene for the spectacle and the thousands who attended over the weekend were kept relatively dry in what was so far a wet August.
Tom Lord won his first event after coming fourth in his first two events this year. He teamed up with John Garcia as they defeated Morph Bowes and Jake Sheaf in the final of the men's Urban Beach Elite final.
There was yet more success for Shauna Mullin and Denise Johns as they made it 3 wins out of 3 in this year’s Tour. Lucy Boulton and Zara Dampney were once again the beaten finalists, just like they were at Milton Keynes back in July.
