Beach volleyball proves a hit at music festival
14th July 2008
Milton Keynes played host to three fun filled days of volleyball action as the first leg of the Dodge Urban Beach Tour kicked off alongside the town’s annual youth music festival, Musik4U at the weekend.
For the first time in its history, the Buckinghamshire town had a beach, as over 200 tonnes of sand was used to create a special court at Station Square, setting the scene for some fast paced volleyball action.
Thousands flocked to the urban beach over the weekend to see the world-class volleyball players battle it out, including Milton Keynes born Liane Herbert, 22, who, alongside her partner Helen Brown, came third in the women’s Urban Beach Elite tournament.
South African born Shauna Mullin and Olympic hopeful Denise Johns were the winners of the Women’s tournament, with GB squad members Lucy Boulton and Zara Dampney coming second.
The Men’s Urban Beach Elite was taken by former Beach Grand Prix Champion Steve Fee and Aussie star Aaron Stolberg. Glaswegian Morph Bowes and Richard Payne from South Africa came second, while the Sheaf brothers, Luke and Jake, who are both set to play in the European and World U21 Championships, claimed third place.
